Will Hoge-
Rock/Americana
I was 17 and it was Valentines Day,
It was the only year I have ever had a boyfriend on Valentines Day.
But before you think this is some sappy grossly romantic story.
Remember who is telling it.
I was so excited about the show
Edwin McCain and Sister Hazel at The Peace Center
it was a benefit show for the Meyer's Center. I was supposed to be attending with my Parents (I realize now I go to alot of random concerts with my parents)
But my Dad had to work, so we had a extra ticket, I invited My then Boyfriend, but his best friend was having a birthday party that night, and seeing that I am not sappy and romantic. I didn't really care that we weren't together for valentines... it isn't really my thing.
Anyway, I ended up at the show with my Mom and Boyfriend's Mom.
I remember we had seats on the floor 4th or 5th row from the back on the right hand side.
This guy I had never heard of named Will Hoge was opening up.
I don't remember if he had a band with him. I don't believe he did... he did have a piano.
he played a few songs and was really pretty decent.
Than it happened, his last song. He said he was was going to sing a song acapella and unplugged.
He walked over to the left side of the stage, and told everyone they were going to need to be really quiet so we could all hear.
"see her walking alone, in this city of heartache and stone.
she finds her way down to where she once found all her dreams.
she doesn't understand why, something she'd given her heart to could die.
but that's just the way it works out they say it's alright"
That is when I really fell in love.
Anyone who can project and filled 2000+ theatre without a microphone is incredible.
even though we were in the back you could hear him so clearly.
I was hooked.
I don't remember how much later it was... I know it was after I broke up with my boyfriend.
But I went to see him again with my parents at The Handlebar.
he snuck off stage and stood on the bar in the back, and started singing Carousel.
All the Drunk people joined in. haha
it was a great night.
So needless to say I love Will Hoge, I haven't seen him since I was in high school.
But I listen to his CD's quite often.
I have the "Carousel" album and the "Blackbird on a Lonely Wire" Album.
Both AWESOME!
I have a really hard time picking favorites because I pretty much love 95% of the songs on these albums.
But to choose like 5, in no certain order.
~ Pretty Sure (I'm Over You)
~ Not That Cool
~ King of Grey
~ All Night Long
~ Carousel
Well that is my story about finding Will Hoge.
I haven't really listened to his new stuff,
so I can't confirm or deny how awesome it is or is not.
But check him out and read his story.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!!
oooo nice photo! and I will always remember that first night of hearing him!
