Deas Vail.

So I already fail in this awesome idea.
I totally missed last week.
So better late than never!

Deas Vail- Using Latin and Old French the band’s name is roughly translated “Humble Servant of God”
Indie Rock

I first heard of them June of 2007.
My Mom and I had talked for years about going up to Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell Illinois.
And almost on a whim, we realized that everyone else in the family was going to be gone that week.
So we rented a car, packed up all of our camping gear and drove up to Cornerstone.
Mom is much more of a intellectual than I am. So She loved all the conferences and speakers.
And I was more into the music. We both kinda sucked it up and both went to things for the other person, (and I don’t mean that badly, I know we both enjoyed parts of that)
But I remember about mid-week I just couldn’t listen to anymore speakers, my brain was on overload.
So while she was listening to someone extremely awesome I am sure…
I just happened to remember they were playing. I had listen to them a bit online before heading up.
So I went to one of the tents, And their were literally like 18 people there.
I was shocked because they are SO good.
They had been around for a good 2 years, but just hadn’t really taken off yet.
Now they are touring with all sorts of awesome people, Including being asked to play Copeland’s farewell tour.

Let’s see, to Describe Deas Vail… Well the first thing you are hit with is Wes Blaylock’s Voice and Falsetto.
It is stunning… but as you listen you realize they aren’t just a band with a great singer. Their music flows together so simply that you can’t really separate it. The guitar just adds to the vocals and of course a band is nothing without a fantastic rhythm section. And Wes’s lovely wife adds in with keys and synth.
Pretty much any band with good keys and synth wins me over straight away.
But what I love so much is the fact that nothing takes away from the beauty of the music. All the sounds and instruments are perfectly married together.

Funny Random Story that I have to add in.
My Brother’s have made a “list” of how to get girls.
1. Is singing “Falling Slowly” from the movie Once
2. Is look like Chase Armitage (a British Freerunner)
And 3. Is to Sing like Wes Blaylock.

Haha. They have probably added more by now. But it cracks me up.

So anyway I fell in love with their album “All the Houses Look the Same”
With Songs like “Shoreline” which is everyone’s favorite. And “Rewind” which has some of my favorite lyrics “This is how it feels to break up sound waves and fall into a quiet place”

I was really nervous about how I would feel about their newest album “Birds and Cages”
But I could not have been more pleasantly surprised. A beautifully elegant album (with album art that I adore)… it takes the “Indie Rock” genre to a whole new depth.
And has quickly become one of my favorite albums… With my favorite song being “Birds” [feat. Matt Thiessen from RelientK]

So check them out!
and let me know what you think!
